Portland Chinooks sign four players

Portland, Oregon-The Portland Chinooks-a second-year franchise in the International Basketball League-have filled four roster spots in preparation for the upcoming season.

The four players:

Brandon Payton, 6'1", 185-Age: 26, College: Oregon State University Experience: Portland Chinooks, Portland Reign Payton is the brother of Miami Heat guard Gary Payton. Payton was an IBL All-Star for the Chinooks last season, averaging 16.9 points per game.

Norris Anderson, 5'8", 165-Age: 23, College: Florida Community College of Jacksonville Experience: Brevard Blue Ducks, New Jersey Jaguars Anderson averaged 10.9 points, 3.3 assists, and 2.8 steals per game as the point guard for the Brevard Blue Ducks (USBL) last season.

Greg Taylor, 6'4", 210-Age: 34, College: Montana State Experience: Portland Chinooks The Chinooks expect him to play both forward positions, as well as shooting guard.

Jimmy Watts, 6'8", 245-Age: 29, College: Willamette Experience: Vancouver Volcanoes Watts, a former decathlete and high-jumper, possesses excellent athleticism for his size. Watts is currently the assistant varsity basketball coach at Lakeridge High School.

- Chinook players will receive compensation ranging between $100 and $150 per game.

- Players joining the team from out of town are offered a paid apartment by the Chinooks. - Chinook players in turn are expected to maintain employment in addition to playing basketball.

- Portland opens the 2006 season on March 12th at the Rose Garden versus Vancouver.

- Chinooks tickets (season/individual game) are now available.
