Salem, OR-- The Salem Stampede, an expansion team in the International Basketball League, is pleased to announce the signing of 7', 228 lb. Center Emmanuel "Hope" Segun. The signing of Segun gives the Stampede an immediate and talented defensive presence that could be an anchor for this season and beyond.

Segun, 27, is set to arrive in Salem next week to begin preparations for the season that starts on March 18. Segun, originally from Nigeria, has been described by a former coach as an "athletic, hard worker" who is "a great team player."

"Hope is an outstanding young man without question," said Eastern Wyoming College Head Basketball Coach Andy Ward in a telephone interview today. "He was very involved in the community and our community embraced him because he is a terrific young man."

"Hope will bring plenty of excitement to our hometown fans," said Joe Becerra, Director of Basketball Operations. "He has a nice touch on his shot and knows how to finish inside."

Becerra said he sees Segun contributing right away on defense and is pleased with Segun's size and talent. "He is working hard to improve his overall game. He will block shots and defend."

Segun's talent and size made him an obvious player to look at for Salem's new team, but it was his character that set him apart. "Hope fits perfect with the Salem Stampede as a player, but more importantly as a person," said Team Owner and President Anthony Veliz. "He is a fine young man and we feel fortunate to have him playing with the Salem Stampede."

Stampede season and individual game tickets are on sale now. Contact the Salem Stampede at (503) 362-5501 or visit the team website at www.iblhoopsonline.com for more information.
