March 9, 2006 - International Basketball League (IBL)
Salem Stampede News Release

Salem, OR-Stampede Owners Anthony and Melinda Veliz, and Director of Basketball Operations Joe Becerra are pleased and excited to announce the signing of local college hoops star Eric Fiegi for their team's inaugural season.

"We're excited to have signed what we consider a franchise player for our new franchise," said Anthony Veliz. "The future looks bright for the team and our fans."

A press conference to announce Fiegi's signing is set for tomorrow - Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at Corban College Gymnasium.

Fiegi, a 6'9" 240 pound post player, recently completed one of the most storied local college basketball careers in recent memory at Corban College. Fiegi led the NAIA Division II in scoring and rebounding by scoring 30 points a game and grabbing 12 rebounds on average for his senior season. Fiegi scored more than 3,000 points and hauled-in more than 1,200 rebounds during his college career.

"I'm really excited to have this opportunity," said Fiegi. "I'm happy to have this chance to keep playing and to get to continue my career in Salem is great."

Fiegi, who played his high school ball at South Medford High School, said he hopes to bring his post game to the Stampede who has already signed high profile guards Grayson Boucher, Ramon Taylor and Jermaine Slider. "I hope to bring an inside presence to the team," said Fiegi. "We have some good guards on this team so I hope to contribute on the inside and if I'm the leading scorer then great, but I just want to help the team win games."

Corban College Head Basketball Coach Justin Sherwood thinks Fiegi has what it takes to make it in professional basketball. "I would like to extend my congratulations to Eric," said Sherwood. "Eric had a great college career and I know he will succeed here in the states or overseas."
