Avs take ice-breaker

Wilmington, DE-The Salem Avalanche, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros, scored all six of its runs in the first four innings in a 6-3 win over Wilmington's Blue Rocks Thursday. With the win, Salem (3-4) took its post All-Star Break opener with Wilmington (1-6).

In the first, Jordan Parraz opened the game with a double off of Wilmington's Ed Cegarra. After reaching third on a Tim Torres groundout, Parraz scored on Mark Ori's sacrifice fly to left.

Once Wilmington took the lead at 2-1 in the home half, the Avalanche quickly responded with a leadoff triple from Koby Clemens in the second and a sacrifice fly off of Collin DeLome's bat to even the game at two.

The next Avalanche run came in its next at-bat, with Mark Ori Plating Jordan Parraz with a double. Parraz reached on his second two-base hit of the game-his second two-double night of the season.

In the fourth, Koby Clemens walked to lead off and reached third on a Collin DeLome double. Clemens then scored on a passed ball. Later, Cesar Quintero blasted a two-run home run to left to hand the Avs a 6-2 lead.

Wilmington chirped for a run in the fifth on a passed ball but got no closer than the three-run deficit. Salem's bullpen trio of Chris Salamida, Raymar Diaz aand Jason Dominguez combined for three scoreless innings. Dominguez notched his fifth save with a two-inning performance.

Salem totaled nine hits in the game, seven of which were of the extra-base variety. The Avs accrued two triples in one game for the third time this season.

Salem and Wilmington play again at 7:05 Friday with righty Corey Bass facing right-hander Mario Santiago from the Blue Rocks.
