Rockford IceHogs News Release

Rockford, Ill.- For the first time this season, the Rockford IceHogs dropped back-to-back home games. The Port Huron Flags knocked off the IceHogs 5-4 Wednesday night at the MetroCentre after mounting a 3-0 lead in the first. Newly acquired center Petr Jelinek sparked Port Huron with three goals and an assist and Chris Hodgson had three assists..

Flags winger Jim Murphy opened the scoring 2:40 into the contest slapping in a long rebound let out by Ronnie Vogel for the 1-0 lead. At 12:10 Jelinek tipped in his first marker of the game on the power play, pushing the lead to 2-0. Jelinek tallied again for the Flags late in the period, at 19:38 to be exact, when he knocked in another power play goal.

The IceHogs began their comeback in the second frame when rookie winger Robin Big Snake shot home a rebound past Flags goalie Jeremy Symington at 5:18. Center Preston Mizzi cut the lead down to 3-2 with a 5-on-3 power play goal at 12:18, sneaking a shot past Symington. Port Huron wouldn't go away empty handed in the second, however, as Jelinek tallied off a face off just as the Hogs hopped on the power play, beating Michel Robinson at 18:54 shorthanded. Robinson replaced Vogel after the first intermission.

With the IceHogs down 4-2 entering the third, they attempted another comeback. Winger Jason Notermann tipped in another 5-on-3 power-play goal at 3:41. Then at 4:39, center Olivier Proulx slid in a rebound to tie the contest at 4-4. But once again, the Flags would respond. On another power play, Ryan Gillis blasted in the eventual game-winning goal past Robinson at 12:28.

Robinson was saddled with the loss and had his club record 10-game winning streak and 15-game unbeaten streak come to an end. Rockford finished 2-for-9 on the power play, but were countered by Port Huron which went 3-for-8. Robinson made 13 saves in the loss while Vogel turned away 10 shots. Symington earned the win stopping 33 Rockford shots.
