Port Huron Fighting Falcons News Release
PORT HURON, MI - The Port Huron Fighting Falcons, proud members of the North American Hockey League, today announced their 2013 training camp roster.
Thirty-two players will report to Port Huron later this month to begin a two-week training camp. Following a pair of exhibition games against the University of Michigan-Dearborn and Adrian College September 6th and 7th, Fighting Falcons coaches will make cuts and set their roster for the start of the 2013-14 regular season.
Among the training camp roster are 17 forwards, 12 defensemen and three goalies. Eight players will return from the 2012-13 team that made it to the second round of the North Division playoffs. Seven tendered players will attend training camp along with four players selected in the 2013 NAHL Draft. Thirteen players earned spots at training camp through their play at three Fighting Falcons off-season tryout camps.
"We're bringing a lot of very talented players to training camp this year, and every one of them has the ability to compete at the NAHL level," said Fighting Falcons Head Coach and General Manager Michael Gershon.
"We've got a lot of new faces coming in, which is a by-product of sending so many of last season's players on to college hockey or USHL teams," Gershon added. "Our tryout camps were a huge success this summer, and we look forward to seeing our returning guys compete with the guys from tryouts, from the draft and our tenders.
"Our schedule is tough right from the start, and our training camp will get our players in the kind of shape they need to be in to play at a high level night in and night out," said Gershon.
The team will play six games in eight days to start the regular season, with a two-game set in Johnstown September 14th and 15th before the NAHL Showcase in Blaine, MN from September 18-21.
The 2013-14 home opener takes place Saturday, September 28 against the Michigan Warriors at 7 p.m. Port Huron's first home game will be their eighth game of the season overall.
Coaches will have to cut the roster down to the league-mandated 23 by October 1st.
Season ticket packages for 2013-14 start at just $175, and the first 25 fans to purchase two or more full season ticket packages will receive a free game-worn Fighting Falcons jersey.
