Winston-Salem Polar Twins News Release
WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Winston-Salem Polar Twins Head Coach Brian Wells is already making changes to his squad. Today, Wells announced that he has added two players to the roster. Forward Steve Lajoie will make his first appearance tonight against the Knoxville Ice Bears in game one of a three-game tryout. Also added to the roster is veteran netminder Nathan Grobins, as goaltender Cam McCormick has been placed on waivers.
Last season, Lajoie had 69 points (31 goals, 38 assists) in 56 games for the Selkirk Steelers of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League. The gritty forward also accumulated 168 penalty minutes in 2003-04.
Grobins joins the Polar Twins with many years of experience in the Central Hockey League. Last season with the CHL's Wichita Thunder, Grobins finished 28-14-2 with a 2.49 goals against average and a .914 save percentage. In 2002-03, the Houston, British Columbia native played in 38 games for the Jacksonville Barracudas, then a member of the Atlantic Coast Hockey League, finishing the season with a 12-23 record.
Deleted from the roster was goaltender Cam McCormick. Last season with the T-birds, McCormick went 10-21 with a 3.82 GAA. McCormick appeared in one game this season for the Polar Twins, allowing five goals on 32 shots by the Jacksonville Barracudas.
