Pokulok Assigned To Stingrays

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach Jared Bednar announced today that defenseman Sasha Pokulok has been assigned to the Stingrays from their AHL affiliate, the Hershey Bears. In keeping with club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Pokulok, 21, has spent the entire season with the Bears playing 44 games where he accumulated seven points (1g, 6a) and 43 penalty minutes. The defenseman is currently in his second professional season after being a first round draft pick of the Washington Capitals in the 2005 NHL Draft, selected 14th overall.

The 6'5", 230 pound defenseman began last season with the Bears but, following an injury, played the remainder of the season with the South Carolina Stingrays. In 16 games with the Rays he totaled three goals and six assists with 22 penalty minutes.

Prior to turning pro, the Vaud-Dorion, PQ native played two years at Cornell University where he had 23 points (7g, 16a) in 53 games. He also spent one year in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League with the Notre Dame Hounds, garnering 23 points (7g, 16a) in 39 games.

Come watch Pokulok's return on Friday, March 28th as the team host the Mississippi Sea Wolves at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum. It's Post and Courier Hall of Fame Night where the Stingrays well induct another member into the Hall of Fame.
