Plymouth's Depth the Difference in 6-2 Victory Over Windsor

PLYMOUTH - Chris Terry scored a goal with two assists and the Plymouth Whalers received six different goal scorers in a 6-2 victory over the Windsor Spitfires in an Ontario Hockey League game played Saturday night before 2, 774 at the Compuware Sports Arena.

Terry was +4 on the evening as the game's first star, setting up Joe McCann's game winning shorthanded goal late in the first period and Wes Cunningham's 4th of the season in the second period before closing the scoring with a goal of his own in the third period.

Evan Brophey (25th), Sean O'Connor (16th) and Steve Ward (12th) scored the other goals for the Whalers, who also received six different scorers in a 6-3 victory over Owen Sound on Friday. Jeremy Smith (Brownstown) stopped 37 of 39 Windsor shots as the game's second star for Plymouth.

Josh Bailey (15th) and Mickey Renaud (15th) scored for Windsor.

Plymouth remains in first place in the OHL West with a record of 37-13-1-2, good for 77 points. The Whalers have won four straight games. Windsor is 15-33-1-3.

For the second straight game, Plymouth scored in the first minute of play to lead 1-0. Brophey scored at 0:37 of the first period when James Neal skated hard into the Windsor zone and got a shot from the right hash mark. Windsor goaltender Andrew Engleage made the save, but Brophey tapped home the rebound. O'Connor gave Plymouth a 2-0 lead at 12:19 of the period when he started the play by winning a battle for a loose puck in his own zone. Breaking down the ice with Andrew Fournier, O'Connor scored on a shot from the left hash mark at 12:19. Terry and McCann teamed up on the eventual game-winning goal with eight seconds left in the first period when Terry intercepted a clearing pass in the Windsor zone and McCann scored on a rebound past Engleage.

Cunningham scored a 2:55 of the second period to give Plymouth a 4-0 lead when he took Terry's pass from the top of the right face off circle in the Windsor zone and one-timed the puck from the left circle past Engleage. Bailey (4:55) and Renaud (19:22) scored for Windsor to cut the Plymouth lead to 4-2 after forty minutes.

But Plymouth pulled away with two unanswered goals in the third period. Ward scored on a blast from the right point at 4:43 and Terry accepted McCann's pass from the left boards in the Windsor zone and beat Engleage in front of the goal at 11:01.

After playing in Windsor on Sunday afternoon, Plymouth is on the road all of next week, playing in Barrie next Thursday, Sudbury next Friday and Sault Ste. Marie on Sun. Feb. 18. The Whalers' next home games are on Friday, Feb. 23 against Belleville and Saturday, Feb. 24 against Oshawa.
