Plymouth Whalers News Release
Compuware Arena in Plymouth gets a jump-start to a new hockey season with a pair games coming up later this month:
Sat. Sept. 21, 7:05 pm - Erie Otters at Plymouth Whalers - The Whalers home opener for the 2013-14 season features Erie star Connor McDavid, who scored 25 goals and 41 assists for 66 points in 63 games last season as a 15-year-old. McDavid is considered the next young superstar in the OHL.
Although the Whalers won all four games against Erie last season, two of the games were decided in overtime. The Otters scored nine goals in the season series against the Whalers last year. McDavid figured in on six of the nine goals, scoring three goals and adding three assists.
Plymouth won their 12th West Division title last season in 23 years and expects to be in the middle of the Western Conference race again in 2013-14. The Whalers have made the OHL playoffs 22-straight seasons - a current OHL record.
Tickets run $16 and $12 and can be purchased by calling Compuware Arena at (734) 453-8400.
Sat. Sept. 28, 7 pm - Grand Rapids Griffins vs. Lake Erie Monsters - The hockey scene at Compuware Arena shifts to the American Hockey League as the Griffins and Monsters meet in an AHL preseason game.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by calling Compuware Arena at (734) 453-8400.
The Griffins are the AHL-affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings and are current AHL Champions; the Monsters are the AHL-affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche.
"This game gives Red Wings fans a chance to see the current Calder Cup champions and future Red Wings," said Ryan Martin, Detroit Red Wings assistant general manager. "The opportunity to have the game close to Detroit and at a great venue like Compuware Arena makes for a great fit."
