Plymouth Whalers News Release

PLYMOUTH - Although the Ontario Hockey League playoffs don't start for another month, the Plymouth Whalers and Sudbury Wolves played a game on Saturday night that had playoff intensity.

The Whalers spotted Sudbury a 1-0 lead in the first period before coming back with two goals in the second period and two more in the third for a well-earned 4-1 victory before 3,003 at Compuware Arena.

Goaltender Scott Wedgewood stopped 42-of-43 Sudbury as the game's first star for the Whalers. Plymouth received single goals from Stefan Noesen (30), J.T. Miller (22), Alex Aleardi (30) and Garrett Meurs (18, on the empty net).

Josh McFadden scored the lone Sudbury goal in the first period, his 12th of the year.

Plymouth - who officially qualified for the OHL playoffs Friday night for the 21st consecutive year in a 4-3 overtime victory over Oshawa - improves to 39-17-2-1, good for 81 points and first place in the West Division. The Whalers are now six points behind London as the top seed in the Western Conference. London (now 43-14-0-1) lost, 3-2, to Belleville on Saturday.

The Whalers are off until Tuesday when they play in Saginaw at 10:45 am in Saginaw's annual Education Day game (10:30 am, 88.1FM WSDP). Plymouth returns home next weekend, hosting Brampton on Friday and Windsor on Saturday. Both games start at 7:05 pm at Compuware Arena.
