Playoffs Begin Tonight in Maui Between Flyers and Na Koa Ikaika

WAILUKU, Hawai'i (September 7, 2010) -- After seven games against each other to wrap up the regular season, the Orange County Flyers and Na Koa Ikaika Maui square off on Tuesday in Game 1 of the best-of-five South Division Series to determine who is moving on to the GBL Championship. The Flyers, who played Na Koa Ikaika close in seven games on Maui, play the first two games of the series at Iron Maehara Stadium before returning to Fullerton for Game 3 (and Games 4 and 5 if necessary) at Goodwin Field.

In five of the seven games against Na Koa this past week, the two teams were separated by two runs or less. Maui and Orange County emerged as the top contenders in the GBL South, as each team finished with more than 50 wins in 2010.

The Flyers are one of only the third team in GBL history to reach the playoffs three times in the GBL's first six years. The Calgary Vipers became the fourth team to earn three trips to the GBL post-season when they clinched the North Division second half this week. Calgary faced the Chico Outlaws starting in Chico, with the winner of that series facing the winner of Orange County and Maui for the GBL Championship. There has yet to be a two-time Champion in league, and three past champions in Chico (2007), Orange County (2008) and Calgary (2009) join the expansion Maui franchise in the playoffs this year.
