Playoff race heats up heading into final weekend

Atlanta Silverbacks News Release
The playoff race for the Silverbacks continues tonight at 10:00 pm when they take on the Portland Timbers at PGE Park in Portland, Oregon. The playoff race is still very much alive, while four teams battle for the sixth and final spot in post-season play. This game puts the "must"Â in a must-win game for the Silverbacks; without a win tomorrow night, the Silverbacks fall out of the playoff race. Portland joins Atlanta in the must-win scenario and the game will undoubtedly be an exciting one. You can listen to a live broadcast on the internet at www.uslfans.com.
The Silverbacks fell to the Timbers 2-1 a week and half ago in Atlanta and are hungry for a win after Sunday's 2-1 loss to the playoff bound Seattle Sounders. Only three points in league standings separate the four teams, and the tight race might come down to head-to-head competition or goal differential. The Atlanta Silverbacks head into the weekend with 30 points in the USL standings; they're up against the Portland Timbers (33 pts), the Puerto Rico Islanders (32 pts), and the Minnesota Thunder (31 pts). A win for the Silverbacks doesn't guarantee a place in the playoffs so the Silverbacks will keep a close eye on how other teams fair over the weekend to see if the numbers add up to a shot at the postseason.
