Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC News Release
WINDSOR, Colo. - Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC will finally know their playoff fate after Saturday's regular season finale against Chattanooga Red Wolves SC.
Currently third in the USL League One table, Hailstorm can clinch the Players' Shield with a win against Chattanooga, a loss by Union Omaha to Forward Madison FC and a draw or loss by North Carolina FC against One Knoxville SC. A Hailstorm win paired with one of the other two needed results will net them second place and a first-round bye.
"We started against Chattanooga, and back then of you'd told me it was going to go to the last game against Chattanooga with a chance to win the whole thing, I'd have taken it," Hailstorm head coach Éamon Zayed said.
This will be the third meeting between Hailstorm and Chattanooga this season, with each of the prior two taking place in Tennessee. Their matchup in the season opener resulted in a 0-0 draw and the second meeting ended 1-1 after a 93rd minute goal from Ropapa Mensah secured a point for the home side.
"There's a little bit of bad blood there," Hailstorm captain Rob Cornwall said with a laugh. "Actually no there isn't, we just want to finish the league on a high."
Hailstorm can end their season on a high Saturday at Future Legends Field. Kickoff against Chattanooga is scheduled for 7 p.m. Mountain time.
