
Pittsnogle nets 35, but Pittsburgh falls to Indiana, 129-119

ANDERSON, IN, January 14, 2007 - Kevin Pittsnogle continued his stellar play by netting 35 points and Janerio Spurlock added 23 for Pittsburgh (2-17), but Indiana (12-8) notched its seventh straight victory to take over first place in the American Conference with a 129-119 victory in Continental Basketball Association action at the WigWam. Isaac Jefferson added a triple-double for the Xplosion recording 18 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists.
The Alley Cats got off to a quick start, winning the opening quarter 38-28, and kept the Black and Gold at arm's length throughout the contest to pick-up six of seven quarter points. Indiana also squeaked out the second stanza, 26-25, and captured the final frame, 39-36. Pittsburgh won the third quarter, 30-26, to keep the contest tight entering the final period.
Pittsnogle and Spurlock kept the Xplosion close throughout the game, closing the gap to as little as five points in each of the final three quarters, but were unable to draw the contest even. It was a two possession game, 122-116, after free throws by Shawn Hawkins, with less than a minute to play, before the Alley Cats pushed out for the final margin of victory.
Indiana shot well from the floor connecting at a 53 percent clip (53-99), but good free throw shooting allowed Pittsburgh to make up the difference. The Xplosion were 37-46 from the charity stripe, while the Alley Cats were just 21-28. The Black and Gold outrebounded Indiana, 52-43, but turned the ball over 26 times to just 16 for the host Alley Cats.
Pittsnogle had a double-double finishing with 35 points and a season-high 13 boards. Spurlock also had nine rebounds. Greg Jenkins tallied 12 points and Hawkins finished with 10. Shaun Fountain led six Indiana players in double figures with 30 points.
The Xploson and Alley Cats meet again on Wednesday, January 17 at Mellon Arena. Game time is slated for 7:35. The contest will be preceded by Fort Cherry vs. Burgettstown High School at 5:00 PM.
