Erie Explosion News Release
(Belle Vernon, PA) - The Pittsburgh RiverRats of the AIFA announced the signing of QB Jarrod Highberger to a contract for the upcoming 2008 season.
Highberger (6'3"-200), a native of Blairsville, PA, played in 7 games last season for the Johnstown Riverhawks of the AIFA in his first year of professional indoor football. He completed 49% of his passes for 977 yards and 23 touchdowns against only 7 interceptions. Johnstown's record was 4-1 in Highberger's five starts, including a win at home against the Pittsburgh RiverRats. Highberger played collegiately at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh from 2002-2005 where he finished in the top 10 in school history in pass completions, attempts, and yards. In 2003 and 2004, he was a second-team all-University Athletic Association selection.
"Jarrod provides us with some depth at the quarterback position. He won 4 games as a starter last year, so we know we can win with him if called upon. He graduated from CMU, so clearly he's very intelligent and his work ethic is solid. He has already requested some film so that he can get a head start on learning our offense. David Dinkins has the inside track on the starter role, but we expect Jarrod will come here and compete hard for playing time, which would be good for us." commented Head Coach Shawn Liotta.
