Pittsburgh Power Defeat Orlando Predators in Season Opener

After a long, tumultuous day of roster transactions, the Orlando Predators finally kicked off their season opener against the Pittsburgh Power on NFL Network. Before the action started, the AFL celebrated their 25th season opener with a Hall of Fame Induction that included Predators great Barry Wagner and former NFL quarterback Kurt Warner.

The Predators lost their first game of the season, 40-26 to the Pittsburgh Power.

The game started out quietly, both teams had consecutive three and outs resulting in 0-0 score to end the first quarter.

Pittsburgh started the second quarter off with a spark, scoring on their first possession on a touchdown pass from quarterback Andrico Hines. The Predators answered right back with a Collin Drafts touchdown pass to wide receiver Albert Dukes. Both teams exchanged touchdowns again, ending the first half tied 14-14.

The Power opened the second half scoring on a touchdown pass from Hines. On the following possession, Drafts led the Preds offense down the field ending the drive with a touchdown strike to wide receiver Taurian Washington, his second receiving touchdown of the game. Pittsburgh scored late in the third quarter, leading 26-20 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Power scored early in the fourth quarter, extending their lead 34-20. Drafts responded with a rushing touchdown, cutting the lead 34-26. The Power scored one last time on a long touchdown to wide receiver Mike Washington, his second of the game. The score put the Power up 40-26, putting the game out of reach for the Predators.

The Predators next game will be March 22, 2012 against the Chicago Rush at 8:30 p.m. The game is in Chicago, the Predators first away game of the season.
