Mobile BayBears News Release
PEARL, MS - The Mobile BayBears (15-10, 49-44) held on to a 2-1 win over the Mississippi Braves (16-10, 49-45) on Wednesday night at Trustmark Park. After each team traded a run in the first frame, BayBears pitchers held the M-Braves scoreless over the final eight innings. With the win, Mobile now sits just half a game back of both Mississippi and Pensacola for first place in the South Division standings.
Mobile improved to 34-14 when scoring first this season. The BayBears first run came in the first inning when Sean Jamieson reached base safely with a lead-off walk and then scored two batters later on a RBI double off the bat of Jack Reinheimer.
Mississippi evened the score in the bottom half of the first when Emerson Landoni doubled in Sean Godfrey with a RBI two-base knock. The run made it a 1-1 score until Mobile pushed ahead again in the top of the third inning when Zack Borenstein pushed Socrates Brito across home with a RBI single, giving the BayBears a 2-1 lead.
The third inning score would be the last of the game for either team. BayBears RHP A.J. Schugel (7-2) earned the win after allowing just one run on five hits, walking three batters and striking out three in five innings. Three BayBears relievers combined to limit Mississippi to just two hits over the final four frames and RHP Silvino Bracho was credited with his 10th save with Mobile after retiring the M-Braves in order in the ninth inning.
