Wilmington Sharks News Release
It may not have been a dominating performance, but the Wilmington Sharks' (26-16, 10-5) pitching staff came through when it counted to strand 11 baserunners of the Wilson Tobs (21-20, 7-7) to protect the lead and win 6-2.
The Sharks took the lead in the third and never looked back. Mark Donadio (Fordham) singled to break open the scoring, and Alec Bohm (Wichita State) followed that with a double to score another. Nick Rotola (Oral Roberts) hit a sacrifice fly to complete the trio of runs scored that half inning. Three more came across in the fifth inning. Bohm singled home a run, and Cletis Avery (Presbyterian) homered to score two more.
Wilson scored two runs, one in the fourth on a bases loaded walk, and another in the fifth on a fielder's choice. They had plenty of other chances, as they left 11 runners on base and left the bases loaded twice.
The win went to Shelton Perkins (1-0). He threw three innings, with two hits, one unearned run, one walk and seven strikeouts. Zack Kelly (2-3) took the loss, pitching six innings, allowing six runs, on 10 hits, one walk and five strikeouts.
The Sharks play a home and home series with Wilson, the the Sharks hosting them on Friday. The team takes a trip to Edenton on Saturday, before taking two off days.
