HAMPTON, Va. - The Peninsula Pilots (27-14, 8-6) fell to their East Division rivals, the Edenton Steamers (22-18, 9-5), 8-2 on Thursday night at War Memorial Stadium. The Pilots took the lead early in the second with a one-out solo shot to left-center by Devin Mahoney (St. Louis), his second home run of the season.

The Steamers replied quickly in the top of the third with five runs that started on a bloop single to left by Trey Hair (Evansville) that scored Tyler Ammerman (USC Aiken) and Richard Cunningham (Baylor). Hair reached third on the throwing error and came around to score on Mitchell Price's (USC Aiken) single. Tony Rosselli (Indiana State) capped the scoring with a two-run home run to right-center.

Colt Harlow (JMU) started on the mound and kept the Steamers off the board for two solid innings before running into trouble in the third inning. Dillon Meadows (TCU) relieved Harlow in the fourth, giving up no runs. The Steamers pushed two more runs across the plate when right-hander Sam Sinnen (ODU) took the mound. Three hits in the inning including a RBI single by Thatcher Coleman (Presbyterian) that was lost in the lights.

Kurt Sinnen (ODU) led off the bottom of the fifth with a walk and advanced to second on an infield single to third by Joe Poduslenko (Seton Hall). Darien Carpenter (VCU) drove a ball to deep center that advanced Sinnen to third with one out. The Pilots got back on the board with another infield single, this time by Logan Augustine (Lincoln Memorial), closing the gap 7-2.

The top of the sixth proved to be yet another productive inning for the Steamers, as they added another run to the board. Ben Prada (UMass-Lowell) led off with a 13-pitch walk and scored on a double down the right field line by Ammerman. Augustine threw a laser to Franco Guardascione (Jacksonville), but Prada was deemed safe in the close play at the plate. The Pilots answered back immediately, as Cunningham hit a single up the middle to Will Shepherd (Liberty) who threw Prada out at home.

The Steamers remained scoreless as Chase Randolph (Lincoln Memorial) closed the game, pitching three impressive innings for the Pilots. Though the stability from the bullpen was present, the lineup's lack of production in the second half of the game failed to allow them to close the gap and reduce the Steamer's six run lead. Drew Faintich (UCF) picked up the win to move to 1-0 on the season, and Harlow (0-1) took the loss for the Pilots.

After a doubleheader with the Steamers on Friday night in Edenton, the Pilots will face the Holly Springs Salamanders at home on Saturday for Kevin Eadie Spirit Night, where the Kevin Eadie Spirit Award winner will be announced.
