
Pitching Dominates, Swamp Bats Clinch Playoff Berth with 3-0 win

The Keene Swamp Bats clinched a playoff berth on the final day of the regular season Saturday night, defeating the Sanford Mainers by a score of 3-0. The win sets up a best of three series between the Swamp Bats and the Mainers beginning on Monday night at Goodall Park.
Keene finishes the regular season at 21-21, while Sanford completes their regular season at 24-18.
The Swamp Bats took an early lead with a two-out rally in the top of the second. Three straight singles from Alex Liquori (Kennesaw State), Bret Dennis (St. John's) and Patrick McGrath (Washington State) gave Keene a 1-0 advantage. The last of the three singles scored Liquori. McGrath stole second and the throw down went into centerfield, allowing Dennis to score.
In the top of the fourth, Brady Sheetz (Hartford) singled to right but advanced to third on the play as it was booted by Sanford right fielder Sam Stauble (Maine). The next batter, Connor Fitzsimons (Central Conn State) plated Sheetz with a sac fly to center.
Darrick Hall (Cochise) got the win for the Swamp Bats, with 5.1 shutout innings out of the bullpen, allowing four hits and striking out five.
Jacob Marks (Maine) was dealt the loss for the Mainers, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and fanning three over three innings of work.
Keene outhit Sanford 10-7. McGrath was 3-4 with an RBI, while Dennis was 2-4 with a run scored to lead the way offensively for the Swamp Bats.
Keene is the number three seed in the Northern Division and will take on the Mainers Monday night at Goodall Park in game one of the series for a 6:30 first pitch.
