NEWARK, N.J. - The 2007 Atlantic League Champion Newark Bears have announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Carlos Mirabal.

The Ringwood resident will begin his third season pitching in a Bears uniform.

Last season with Newark, Carlos tied for the Bears team lead in wins (8), led the team in games started (21) and innings pitched (133.2); and was third in the league in complete games (2). Mirabal was an integral part of last season's championship run for the Bears until he was sidelined by a shoulder injury in September.

The product of Fairleigh Dickinson University has had extensive professional baseball experience overseas, with three seasons in Taiwan and six seasons with the Nippon-Ham Fighters of Hokkaido, Japan. His best season came in 2003 with a 16-win campaign for the Fighters.

"We're excited to welcome Carlos back to the Bears family," says Assistant General Manager of Baseball Operations Jim Cerny. "He adds a much needed veteran presence to our staff and we look for great things from him the rest of the way."

The 6'2", 196 pound pitcher was originally signed as a free agent by the Yankees in 1995. In 1996, he pitched for the Altoona Rail Kings of the now-defunct North Atlantic League before pitching overseas.

Additionally, RHP David Pellegrine has been traded to the Kansas City T-Bones of the Northern League to complete an earlier trade.
