
Bears Complete 'Stormers Sweep

NEWARK, NJ - The Newark Bears defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 6-3 at Bears and Eagles Riverfront Stadium on Thursday afternoon to complete a three-game series sweep.
The Bears jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning. After Jose Herrera scored on a two-out error by âStormers shortstop Danny Gonzalez, Randall Simon smacked a bases-clearing double to give the Bears a 4-0 lead.
The Barnstormers got on board in the third inning. Left fielder Michael Woods led off the inning with a single, and later scored on an RBI single by Gonzalez to make the score 4-1. The âStormers struck again the in top of the fourth. Ivanon Coffie walked to start the inning and later scored on a wild pitch by Bears starter Mike Bumstead.
The Bears added single runs in the 4th and 6th innings as Ramon Castro delivered a sacrifice fly and an RBI single respectively to up Newark's lead to 6-2.
The âStormers recorded one more run in the top of the ninth with a Manny Mejia RBI single to create the final score of 6-3.
Simon led the Bears offensively, batting 2-4 with two doubles and collecting three RBI.
After inheriting two base runners with one out, JJ Trujillo recorded the final two outs of the game to earn his fourth save. Bumstead (5-4) picked up the win for the Bears, giving up two runs on six hits. He struck out a season-high ten batters and walked four in five innings. Eric Ackerman (0-4) absorbed the loss, pitching six innings and giving up six runs - two earned - on ten hits.
