
Pitch, Hit & Run Competition Comes to Whitaker Bank Ballpark April 21

The Lexington Legends will serve as host for a local level of the AquafinaR Major League BaseballR Pitch, Hit and RunT Competition.
Pitch, Hit & RunT is the official skills competition of Major League Baseball. It is designed to provide young people with an opportunity to compete, free of charge, in a competition that recognizes individual excellence in core baseball and softball skills.
Competition will take place at Whitaker Bank Ballpark Saturday, April 21 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Competitors will be divided into four age groups: 7-8 years, 9-10, 11-12 and 13-14. Both boys and girls are encouraged to participate (Boys and girls will compete separately). Participants will have the chance to advance through four levels of competition, including Team Championships at Major League ballparks and the national finals at the 2012 MLB All-Star GameR. The participants in each age group with the highest score in the following categories will receive awards and will advance to the sectional competition: all-around champion, pitching champion, hitting champion and running champion.
Each child participating in the competition will receive a ticket voucher to any Legends game during the homestand of April 24-30. Competition winners will be recognized on the field before the April 28 game.
"The Legends are excited to provide area youth with the opportunity to participate in this national skills program," said Legends Director of Community Relations and Special Events Sarah Piester. "We have talented young athletes in our community, and this is their time to showcase that talent. The Legends look forward to this event and hope to see a large number of competitors come out on April 21."
All participants must bring a copy of their birth certificate and fill out a registration and waiver form before the start of competition. Registration is now available online at www.lexingtonlegends.com (under "community") and will continue until the competition begins April 21.
