Pennsylvania Pit Bulls News Release
McKeesport, PA. Freddie Lewis, General Manager of the ABA Pennsylvania Pit Bulls professional basketball team today announced that Tom Washington has joined the team as Head Coach. According to Lewis, "When I decided to return home to manage the Pit Bulls, my first choice was getting Tom back here also - he's the perfect coach for this team."
Washington played in the original ABA with the Pittsburgh Pipers in the 1967-1970 seasons. He also played with Ira Harge, father of Arkansas Rimrockers Coach Joe Harge and was a former teammate of the legendary Connie Hawkins in the 1968-69 season. Nicknamed "Trooper," he was a 6'7", 215 forward who attended Cheyney University in Philadelphia, PA and averaged 10.6 ppg in the ABA.
"I am very excited about returning to the Pittsburgh area; I enjoy working with young players and found some good talent at our first tryout camp. We have another camp on November 6th and 7th at Penn State University at McKeesport and know that we'll get some superior talent. We're already getting calls from many NBA teams with players. My assistant coach, Pat Blue, and I know we'll have a very competitive team."
