Pirnak's Back
August 19, 2004 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Tulsa Oilers News Release
After a ton of off-season speculation, the Tulsa Oilers made it official this afternoon by signing forward and long-time Oiler favorite Doug Pirnak.
"I can't express how excited I am to be back with the Oilers. You never know how many seasons you have in you... I'm really glad I have another one ahead of me. If it weren't for the fans of the Oilers and their support of the team, I don't know if I would play this year," says Pirnak.
Pirnak's first pro turn was in Tulsa in 1998, when he played 68 games and put up 254 penalty minutes. In the year's following, Pirnak toured the Central Hockey League with stops in Fayetteville, Huntsville, Fort Worth and Oklahoma City; the vast majority of his career coming in Tulsa.
Last year, in limited action, Pirnak posted 9 points (5 goals, 4 assists) and 135 penalty minutes late in the second half of the season.
"Doug was our spark plug last season. When he came aboard, the team started to get going in the right direction and you can't ignore that. He can do a lot of things on the ice and showed that last season," according to Oilers coach Butch Kaebel.
The 6'0", 210 pounder from Alberta has 251 professional games under his belt, therefore just missing the CHL's 260 game veteran policy.
