Pirates Winter Caravan to visit State College January 17

The Pittsburgh Pirates Winter Caravan is coming to State College. On Wednesday, January 17, fans will have the opportunity to meet players Zach Duke, Paul Maholm and Matt Capps and third base coach Jeff Cox along with broadcasters Lanny Frattare and Steve Blass. The Caravan is a traveling "Hot Stove League" that will visit 25 communities in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia and Maryland from January 14 through February 1 to meet with fans and build enthusiasm for the 2007 baseball season.

The Pirates visit to State College will begin with a media session at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park from 10:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The Caravan's stop in State College is being presented by Forever Broadcasting. The Pirates Caravan stop to State College concludes with a luncheon at Celebration Hall. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m. followed by lunch from noon to 1:30 p.m.

Fans who wish to attend the luncheon event in State College should contact Forever Broadcasting at (814) 237-9800. Tickets for the luncheon at Celebration Hall cost $20.00, which includes one community day ticket.

Fans will also have the opportunity to purchase tickets for the Pirates Home Opener on Monday, April 9, against the St. Louis Cardinals and State College community day tickets for Sunday, April 29. Information on Pirates season ticket and eight pack ticket plans will also be available.

"The Caravan gives our players and coaching staff the opportunity to thank all of our fans for their continued support of Pirates baseball," said Kevin McClatchy, Pirates CEO and Managing General Partner. "It also officially kicks off our 2007 campaign. Spring training is right around the corner and fans can talk about the upcoming season with our coaches and players"

Between weeks two and three of the Caravan, PirateFest will be held at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in downtown Pittsburgh from January 26 through January 28. Now in its 17th year, PirateFest is an interactive three-day baseball carnival featuring free autograph sessions, youth baseball clinics, prizes, games and question and answer sessions with Pirates management and players and much more.

Players Jason Bay, Jack Wilson, Freddy Sanchez, Ian Snell, Jose Bautista, Zach Duke, Salomon Torres, Matt Capps, Mike Gonzalez and Tom Gorzelanny along with manager Jim Tracy and pitching coach Jim Colborn are all scheduled to participate in this year's PirateFest.

Tickets for PirateFest are $10.00 for adults and $6.00 for kids 12 and under (children under 30" in height are admitted for free). Tickets can be purchased in advance at www.pirates.com or by calling 1-800-BUY-BUCS. PirateFest autograph schedules will be available at a later date on the team's official website at www.pirates.com.
