Pirates Sign WR Jovon Durante

WORCESTER, MA - The Massachusetts Pirates have signed wide receiver Jovon Durante. Durante was most recently in camp with the Ottawa Redblacks of the Canadian Football League in 2020. In 2019, the 6'0", 180 lb. wideout took part in the NFL Combine and later signed as an undrafted free agent with the Philadelphia Eagles and Seattle Seahawks, going to camps with both teams. He also had a one-day tryout with the Cleveland Browns.
Durante, who hails from Miami, FL was a four-star recruit coming out of Miramar High School and started his collegiate career at the University of West Virginia where he played in 25 games from 2015 through 2016, making 17 starts. In two seasons Durante caught 59 passes for 709 yards with seven touchdowns. He also returned 15 kickoffs for 332 yards for an average of 22.1 yards per return.
In 2017 Durante did not play as he transferred to Florida Atlantic University. The following season he enjoyed his best season with 65 receptions for 873 yards with five touchdowns in 12 games. He also ran the ball eight times for 39 yards. At seasons' end he was a Conference USA Honorable Mention selection.
Between the two schools Durante amassed 124 receptions for 1,582 yards with 12 touchdowns.
