Pirates Sign Peterson and Simpson

WORCESTER, MA - The Massachusetts Pirates have signed kicker Craig Peterson and offensive lineman De'Jour Simpson heading into their first place showdown of the Indoor Football League's Eastern Conference against the Iowa Barnstormers this Saturday night at Phoenix Field at the DCU Center.

Peterson, a 6'3", 225 lb. product of Cortland State University last kicked for the Albany Empire in the National Arena League. Albany won the league title last season with Peterson earning All-NAL First Team honors.

Peterson had signed a contract with Massachusetts for the 2020 season that was lost to the pandemic. He was assigned to the Columbus Destroyers of the Arena Football League in 2019, (the league eventually folded) but he gained prominence in 2018 with the Carolina Cobras of the NAL, helping his team to a championship and was recognized at the NAL's Special Teams Player of the Year.

The Burnt Hills, NY native started his professional journey in 2014, signing a contract with the Ottawa Redblacks of the Canadian Football League. The next two seasons he moved on to the AFL with the Tampa Bay Storm. 2017 saw Peterson with the Spokane Empire before signing with the Hamilton Tigercats of the CFL.

Simpson played three seasons at North Carolina A&T after transferring from Eastern Kentucky. The 6'3", 295 lb. native of Charlotte, NC saw action in just eight games for the Aggies in 2021, but in 2019 played and started in 11 games and had the second highest grade (84% efficiency) of the Aggies offensive linemen. At the end of the season he was selected to the All-Mid Eastern Athletic Conference third team.

Over the course of his collegiate career, Simpson appeared in 41 games, making 26 starts. In 2021 Simpson was a participant in the HBCU Legacy Bowl.
