WORCESTER, MA - The Massachusetts Pirates, Champions of the Indoor Football League, have signed Center Shawn Lockett for the upcoming 2022 season.
In 2021 Lockett was the center for the Albany Empire, the Champions of the National Arena League. With Lockett leading the offensive front, the Empire led the league in rushing and completed the season a perfect 9-0. At seasons' end he was selected as an All-NAL First Team performer.
In 2017 the 6'3", 330 lb. lineman was a member of the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks as the team went 9-1. He also ran the ball six times for eight yards. Later that season Lockett signed with the Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League. In 2018 Lockett joined Albany for the first time while they were members of the AFL.
He would return to Lehigh Valley for the 2019 campaign. In 2020 Lockett signed with the Jersey Flight of the NAL, but the season was lost to the pandemic.
Lockett had signed to play in the IFL this season for the Spokane Shock, but became available when the team ceased operations last week.
Lockett has played center most of his professional career, but did play on both sides of the ball while playing collegiately at American International in his hometown of Springfield, MA.
