Portland Pirates News Release

PORTLAND, ME – Worcester's Jason Bacashihua stopped 19 shots en route to a 4-1 win over the Pirates on Tuesday night at the Cumberland County Civic Center.   The Pirates struck first in the second period at the 3:11 mark on a powerplay goal by Brian Sutherby. Michel Periard got the puck Jared Aulin as he skated into the Worcester zone. Aulin used his speed to escape the IceCats defense and send a cross ice pass to Sutherby who was streaking in on the right wing. After Aulin made the pass, Sutherby quickly launched the puck past Jason Bacashihua's glove to give the Pirates the 1-0 lead.   Later in the period, Dennis Wideman scored an amazing goal by stick handling around the Pirates defense. Wideman picked up the puck in the high slot and maneuvered around two Pirates by bouncing in a out of the left hand circle before firing a shot to the top right hand corner past Maxime Ouellet to tie the game 1-1.   In the third period, the IceCats took the lead at the 9:19 mark on a goal by Troy Riddle. The puck was shot by Brian Fahey from the left point and that is when Riddle redirected the puck between the pads of Ouellet and the puck trickled across the goal line to give the IceCats the 2-1 lead.   Aaron MacKenzie scored Worcester's third goal when he broke up the Pirates clearing attempt at the blue line. He kept the puck in the zone a released a slap shot to the left of Ouellet to give the IceCats the 3-1 advantage.   With 22 seconds left in the game Jay McClement fed Peter Sejna at the red line, who skated in and scored in the empty net to seal the IceCats 4-1 win.   The Pirates (10-12-3-2) return to action on Friday night against the Hartford Wolf Pack in Hartford, Connecticut at 7:05 p.m.
