Pirates Bring Back Yarbary for 2020
November 18, 2019 - National Arena League (NAL)
Massachusetts Pirates News Release
The Massachusetts Pirates have re-signed defensive lineman Willie Yarbary for the upcoming season. Yarbary, who played his collegiate football at Wake Forrest, joined the Pirates for their playoff run and appeared in the last two regular season games making two solo tackles with three assists for a total of three and a half tackles. In the Pirates playoff game in Carolina, Yarbary recorded one tackle for a loss.
Prior to joining the Pirates, the 6'2" 285 lb. lineman was in minicamp with the Atlanta Falcons in May of 2019 and then went to the Canadian Football League with the Toronto Argonauts where he played in a pre-season game.
Pirates President and General Manager Jawad Yatim is pleased to have Yarbary back in the fold for 2020.
"Willie is a versatile athlete who can play all along our defensive front including mac linebacker, as he did against Jacksonville late in the season last year. He's a high character individual who works hard to continuously improve his game and those are the type of guys we've put an emphasis on bringing back this year. We're glad to have him," Yatim said.
A native of Augusta, GA, Yarbary red-shirted with the Demon Deacons in 2014 and then played four seasons. In 41 games had 116 tackles, 21.5 for a loss and 12 sacks. Yarbary's best year was his final season when he was elected as a captain. He compiled 53 stops, 11 were for negative yards, five were sacks and he added a fumble recovery. Yarbary, who played his high school ball at Richmond Academy in Augusta, GA, helped Wake Forrest to three bowl games.
