"Willie is a great kid, stepped right into the lineup for us in '19 and was a productive presence along our defensive front. Can play in the interior or on the edge, and that type of versatility is always appreciated. Fantastic in the locker room, another player you'll never have to worry about motivating or doing things to negatively impact the team off the field. Glad to have him back."
Pirates Defensive Coordinator Rayshaun Kizer, like Yatim, also values Yarbary's versatility to a great extent. "Getting Willie Yarbary back is a big key to our defensive line because he can play all the positions on the d-line, which adds a lot of versatility to that group. I'm looking forward to seeing what Willie and the rest of our d-line does this season."
With the addition of Yarbary, Massachusetts has now signed four defensive lineman for the 2021 season. J.D. Griggs, R.J. Roberts and Youhanna Ghaifan were all re-signed earlier this month. Yarbary spoke on being brought back with his fellow comrades. "It feels good to come back to a system I know. I'm glad to be able to rejoin my boys and continue to build upon what we've started."
Yarbary played college football at Wake Forest University from 2015-2018. The 6'3", 290-pound defensive lineman saw improvement every season as a Demon Deacon. By the time he was a senior, Yarbary was elected captain and finished his final year of college football with 13 games played, 53 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks, which were all career highs. Yarbary also played in three bowl games for the Demon Deacons.
Before joining the Pirates, Yarbary spent time with the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL and Atlanta Falcons of the NFL in 2019. Yarbary is a native of Augusta, Georgia.
