
Pioneers Start Southern Trip

Wilkes-Barre, PA- The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers will travel to Macon, GA to face off against the Knights. The game will be held in the Macon Coliseum at 7:30 PM EST. The contest will be the first time these two teams square off in franchise history.
The Pioneers have started their second longest winning streak this season and will be looking to carry the momentum through this week's game against Macon. In week 11, the Pioneers faced off against the Albany Conquest at the Wachovia Arena. Wilkes-Barre mounted a second half comeback, sparked by a 43-yard touchdown pass from Quarterback Bryan Snyder to WR/LB Rocco Forgione. Forgione finished the game with 2 touchdowns receiving and one touchdown on a 14-yard kickoff return after an Albany onsides kick. The Pioneers won the game 43-34.
Macon is coming off a win in week 11, beating the Bossier-Shreveport Battlewings 57-36. Quarterback, Lionel Hayes went 18-of-29 with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Chris Johnson led the receivers with six catches for 63 yards and one touchdown while Kendrick Lee grabbed four passes for 76 yards. Tyrone Myers was named the ADT Defensive Player of the game. He had only one tackle but applied constant pressure to Bossiers' Quarterback Tim Hicks throughout the entire game.
The Pioneers are ranked 5th in the league for Scoring Defense, Pass Defense, Pass Defense Rating and Sacks By; 4th in Total Defense, MFG Return Yards per Game and Sacks Against; 3rd in Kickoff Return Yards per Game and 2nd in Opponent Penalties.
Pioneers individual statistic leaders included David Davis who is ranked 5th in Field Goals, Field Goal Attempts, Field Goals Made and PAT Kicks Made. JR Thomas is ranked 5th in Kick Returns and Kick Return Yards. Jamie Hattley is ranked 4th in Tackles with 67.0 and 7th in Passes Defended. Ronnie Kaymore is 9th in the league for tackles with 52.0. Chris Ekwueme and Jim Sodano are among league leaders in sacks with 3.0 and 2.0 respectively.
This week's trip to Macon marks the start of a long series of Pioneers' road games. Wilkes-Barre will be away for four games in five weeks, coming back home to host the Albany Conquest on July 23rd.
