Pioneers Gear Up for Bye-Week

Wilkes-Barre, PA- The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers will join the rest of af2 with a bye this week, which is week 14 of the 2005 season. This will be the Pioneers' second bye of the season.

The Pioneers head into this bye after a long road campaign in Georgia, facing the Macon Knights and South Georgia Wildcats in successive weeks. Wilkes-Barre squared off against Macon on June 25th at the Macon Coliseum. After a hard fought game, the Pioneers found themselves on the short end of a 53-41 final score.

After their loss to Macon, the Pioneers traveled to Georgia Southwestern University where they stayed the week. The team practiced there preparing for their week 13 match up. The team reached their southern most destination of this trip in Albany, GA where they make their final preparations to play the South Georgia Wildcats.

The teams squared off June 25th in the Albany Civic Center in front of a crowd of nearly 6,200. The Pioneers took the early lead and never looked back. The Wildcats kept clawing their way closer, but the Pioneers were ultimately victorious with a final score of 65-46.

At the end of this trip, Wilkes-Barre has an overall record of 7-5 and boasts an away record of 4-2. The Pioneers go into their bye week after two consecutive away games only to return to action with two more away games. The team will travel north to rematch the Manchester Wolves on July 8th and then back south to take on the 2004 Arena Cup Champion Florida Firecats on July 16th.

The Pioneers return home on July 23rd, where they will take on the Albany Conquest at 7:30PM at the Wachovia Arena. Single game and group tickets are now on sale.
