Pioneers Fight Firecats in Round Two

Wilkes-Barre, PA- Not only will this be the second time the Pioneers play the Florida Firecats this season but this is the second meeting in the playoffs. The Firecats ended the Pioneers' ArenaCup dreams last season when Florida defeated Wilkes-Barre 41-31.

The Firecats entered the playoffs as the number one seed in the American Conference with a record of 14-2. As the number one seed, Florida received a bye in the first round of the playoffs.

The Pioneers enter this year's ArenaCup playoffs as the number four seed. Wilkes-Barre played host to the Green Bay Blizzard for their first round match up. The score remained close throughout the game as the two teams traded scores. With the help of the Defensive Player of the Game Jamie Hattley and Ironman Leroy McFadden, the Pioneers managed to hold off the Blizzard in the last minute of the game winning 48-41.

Florida and Wilkes-Barre met in week 14 of the regular season in the Germain Arena. The Pioneers were down as much as 20-7 but battled back. The last minute field goal by kicker David Davis sent the game into overtime. In OT, Florida scored first giving them a 48-41 lead. With little time remaining, the Pioneers march down the field and score a touchdown of their own. With virtually no time remaining, the Pioneers went for the two-point attempt and the win. After a flag on the first try, the Pioneers were moved back five yards to try again. The second attempt failed and Wilkes-Barre had to travel home defeated.

This week's game against Florida will be broadcast on the radio. Pioneers fans can listen to the game WILK 910 AM in Scranton, 980 AM in Wilkes-Barre and 1300 AM in Hazelton with play-by-play commentary from local radio personality Rob Neyhard.
