Pioneers Complete Successful Road-Trip with 10-5 win

Bridgewater, NJ - The Somerset Patriots fought back from an 8-1 deficit to force extra innings in an 9-8 loss to the Long Island Ducks in front of 4,709 fans at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Sunday afternoon.

With the game tied at one after the first inning, the Ducks jumped out to an 8-1 lead, scoring seven runs in the fifth inning. The inning was highlighted by a two run single by second baseman Norberto Martin and a three run home run by shortstop Kevin Baez (2).

The Patriots added two in the sixth inning on a solo home run by right fielder Jason Fennell (2) and a sacrifice fly by left fielder DaRond Stovall.

The Patriots had a five run ninth inning to force extra innings. Designated hitter Desi Wilson led off with a single and was out on a fielder's choice by Stovall. First baseman Mike Glavine and catcher Sean Mulligan each drew walks and second baseman Emiliano Escandon drove in two runs on a double to left field, scoring Stovall and Glavine. Shortstop Duke Baxter followed with his second big hit in as many games, driving in Mulligan and Escandon on a double to center field to close the gap to 8-7. Center fielder Billy Hall followed with a double down the left field line to score Baxter to tie up the game and would end the inning on a caught stealing at third base.

The Ducks once again took the lead in the top of the 11th inning. Designated hitter Patrick Lennon singled to center field and scored on the game winning single by first baseman Francisco Morales.

Ducks reliever Ryan Halla (1-0) picked up the win and Steve Falteisek earned his first save of the season for Long Island. Patriots reliever John Briscoe (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing an earned run on three hits in two innings pitched. The loss drops the Patriots to 0-7 in day games this season.
