Bears Drop Third Straight

Newark, NJ – Sunday, June 2, 2002 – The Newark Bears dropped their third straight game, and sixth of their last seven, to move to 15-12 on the season as they lost to the Camden Riversharks by a score of 6-2. The Bear's offense failed to mount any attack through the first eight innings, and remained off of the scoreboard until a two run homerun by Jimmy Hurst in the ninth.

Starter Jack Armstrong (2-2) lasted seven full innings allowing four runs off of eight hits while picking up five strikeouts. Reliever Steve Gagliano allowed the final two runs by the Riversharks in the ninth on a two run shot by Jesus Azuaje. Camden starter Lincoln Mikkelson (3-2) was solid through eight innings as he allowed just those two runs on seven hits while tallying seven strikeouts.

The Bears and Riversharks will play game two of this three game series tomorrow evening at 6:35 pm, and will close out the series on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the Pennsylvania Road Warriors will becoming to town to begin another three game series here at "The Den".
