Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release
Wilkes-Barre, PA- The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers are pleased to announce the addition of Matt Forbes to the team's 2006 roster. Forbes has been a defensive leader in the af2 in the past three seasons with Quad City.
"I'm very excited to have Matt become a Pioneer," said Head Coach Rich Ingold. "I found him in an open tryout at Augustana College while I was in Quad City. In my opinion he is the best safety in af2. We know each other very well and are very comfortable with one another. He's started three years for me, he's like a son to me."
The all-league defensive specialist racked up some impressive stats during his af2 career. Since 2003 Forbes recorded 215 tackles (186 unassisted), 4.5 tackles for a loss, 20 interceptions, 67 pass break ups, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
Forbes holds multiple single game league highs in 2005 including interception return yards with 92, longest single interception return of 53 yards and the most interception returns for touchdowns with two. He racked up 92.5 tackles placing him 7th overall in af2.
Playing college football at William Penn, Forbes finished sixth in the nation in punt returns and eleventh in interceptions. He holds the second highest punt return average in the school's history
The Pioneers are gearing up for their 2006 season. Season tickets are now on sale. Anyone interested in season tickets should contact the team's ticket sales office at either (570) 270-5811 or (570) 270-5813. Pioneers season tickets are available for as low as $40.
