Stockton Lightning News Release

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Lightning is now the official name of the new af2 team in Stockton. Team President Dan Chapman announced the new name and unveiled the team logo at a press conference today at Valley Brew.

"We can't wait to bring this fast and exciting game to our fans," Chapman said. "We feel the name we chose truly reflects the intensity and flair of our sport."

Over 2,200 participants submitted names in a "Name the Team" contest sponsored by the Stockton Record. The six team name finalists selected by the Stockton Football Franchise Group, Inc. were the: Delta Dawgs, Heat, Lightning, Outlaws, Stallions, and Storm. The grand prize winner of the contest was Charles Tillery of Stockton, California. The five first prize winners are: Ruth McKenzie of Elk Grove, Calif., Joe Repoley of Modesto, Calif., Tim Viall of Stockton, Calif., London Holmes of Stockton, Calif., and Sandra Sulfar of Stockton, Calif.

"Arena football is an incredibly fast-paced sport and we wanted a name that conveyed the speed and unpredictability of the game," said Lightning Owner Michael Reinsdorf. "Our fans are going to love this sport."

The name announcement follows last week's introduction of Richard Davis as the team's first head coach. Davis was previously at the helm of the Albany Conquest (2005) and the Richmond Speed (2000-2003) and has a career record of 41-23 in af2.

The logo features a powerful lightning-bolt enhancement of the word "Lightning" across the front, descending downward toward a protruding football, which is decorated in black and red. Two black-colored lightning bolts flank the football, while the word "Stockton" is highlighted in red above the word "Lightning."

The first official merchandise offered by the team bearing the new logo, in red, silver, and black was sold immediately following the press conference.

Season tickets for the Stockton Lightning will go on sale to the public Decemer 3rd. The Inaugural 2006 Stockton Lightning season will begin in Stockton next spring. For more information, please contact the Stockton Lightning at (209) 948-3322.
