Birmingham Barons News Release
PEARL, MS - Birmingham Barons outfielder Eudy Pina posted a 1-for-2 night while infielder Jake Peter added five innings of work at third base in tonight's Southern League All-Star Game at Trustmark Park in Pearl, MS.
Pina started in left field and hit eighth for the North Division All-Stars. In his first at-bat, the native of the Dominican Republic knocked an opposite-field single into right field off Pensacola Blue Wahoos pitcher Jackson Stephens for his lone hit of the game. The 25-year-old struck out in his second at-bat of the night and left the game in the fifth inning.
Jake Peter entered the game in the same inning and took over at third base for Montgomery Biscuits infielder Keon Wong. The native of Mason City, Iowa flew out to right field his first time at the dish and recorded the final out of the game with a hard line drive to left-center field.
Former Samford Bulldog Phillip Ervin won the Southern League All-Star Game MVP award with a fifth inning grand slam as the South Division topped the North by a 5-1 final score.
Both Pina and Peter will rejoin the Barons in Mobile June 23rd before Birmingham faces the BayBears to start the second half of the Southern League season.
