RHP Mark Appel makes his third start of the season as he last pitched on April 15 in game two of the doubleheader against the Pawtucket Red Sox. The Houston native lasted just three innings as he surrendered five runs on five hits and gave up two home runs in a no decision as the Pigs stormed back in the late innings. The right-hander is still searching for his first win of the season after taking the loss in his season debut against the Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on April 10.

RHP Drew VerHagen makes his third start of the season for the Mud Hens in tonight's series opener. On the young season, the Royse City, TX, native has allowed just one earned run in each of his two starts for the Mud Hens. He picked up his first win of 2017 on April 14 in a 4-3 victory of the Indians. The right-hander is making his first career start against the IronPigs tonight after making two relief appearances in 2015 where he did not issue a run in both outings.

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (7-7) picked up yet another strong pitching performance from starter Nick Pivetta, and Jesmuel Valentin and Cameron Perkins each blasted home runs in a 4-2 victory over the Columbus Clippers (7-7) Thursday morning at Coca-Cola Park.

The Pigs picked up their second consecutive series win with a two-games-to-one advantage over the Clippers.

Pivetta started right where he left off in his last outing on April 15, as the right-hander pitched 13 scoreless innings from the sixth inning on April 9, through the sixth inning in the 4-2 victory over the Clippers.

Valentin and Perkins paced the offense as both launched home runs to left field, with Valentin starting the scoring with his solo round tripper in the first and Perkins then launched a two-run shot in the sixth to lead the Pigs to a 4-2 win over the Clippers.
