HIDALGO, TX: January 31, 2005 – The Rio Grande Valley Dorados of arenafootball2 are ecstatic to announce they have been assigned wide receiver / defensive back Pierre Thomas by the af2 for the 2005 season.

"I feel Pierre is made for the arena game," said Dorados Head Coach Kevin Guy. "He is an all-around athlete that is an intense and the expectations on him are very high, so it is important that he picks up the arena game very fast."

Thomas joins the Dorados as a 23 year-old rookie out of Missouri Western State College, where he completed a four year (2000- 2003) career as the program's first football consensus all-american after being named First Team by COSIDA (Daktronics), the American Football Coaches Association, and the Associated Press (Little All-America) in 2003. He received the accolades after setting a single-season school record with 14 interceptions in 2003, which broke a 46 year-old Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association record and tied a NCAA Div. II record that had not been met since 1972. His 14 interceptions also led all NCAA levels over the 2003 season. Thomas, who also accomplished the program's single-game interception record with three (three times), also broke a nine year-old single-season NCAA Div. II record for interception return yards (326) and a career NCAA Div. II record for interception return yards (528), which had been set in the mid-seventies.

The 5'10" 200-pound native of Lee's Summit, Missouri rounded out his career playing in the 2004 Whataburger Cactus Bowl, which is a NCAA Div. II all-star game held annually in Kingsville. Thomas picked up an interception in the game, joining former Dorado Eddie Moten as the only players obtaining interceptions in the contest. Prior to college, Thomas prepped at Lee's Summit North High School.

Thomas' addition to the Dorados gives them 13 members announced to the 2005 roster, joining Brian Baker (QB), John Bradley (OL/DL), J.R. Davies (QB), Sterling Finney (WR/DB),Will Goodloe (OL/DL), Josh Kellett (QB), Joseph Lemberg (OS), Moses Lewis (TBD), Travis McAlpine (WR/DB), Ben McCombs (DE, FB/LB), David Morrill (FB/LB) and Josh Tubbs (OL/DL).
