Phoenix Rising FC News Release
PHOENIX - Phoenix Rising FC battled Western Conference foe Reno 1868 FC to a 0-0 draw at the Phoenix Rising Soccer Complex. The draw coupled with an Orange County win puts Rising FC three points behind the conference's top spot (63 points) with two matches remaining this season. Orange County only has one more match remaining.
The clean sheet is Carl Woszczynski's 12th of the season, the most in the Western Conference.
Phoenix Rising took three times as many shots as Reno, and had double the amount of shots on target, but ran into a buzzsaw in Reno goalkeeper Matt Bersano. Of his four saves, none were bigger than his stop in the 82nd minute.
Rising FC's Solomon Asante made a deft backheel pass to an overlapping Devin Vega down the right flank. Vega sent the ball toward Billy Forbes in the middle of the box and the forward deflected the pass perfectly toward the far right side of the net. But Bersano dove to his right and managed to get his hand on the ball.
Forward Didier Drogba was there to tap in a rebound, but Bersano never let the ball go.
Moments earlier, midfielder Kevon Lambert let a shot rip from over 30 yards away but Bersano managed to get both hands on the ball and harmlessly knock it down before collecting it form himself.
Phoenix Rising has a short turnaround before its next league match. The club travels to Las Vegas on Wednesday, October 10, to take on Lights FC. That match will kickoff at 8 p.m. Fans can watch the match at the club's official watch part at Cold Beers & Cheeseburgers in Old Town Scottsdale.
Tickets for the club's first-ever home playoff match are also on sale now. The match is scheduled to take place on Friday, September 19, at 7:30 p.m. The first 3,000 fans will receive a black t-shirt from Arizona Complete Health. It'll also be $1 Beer Night presented by Bud Light.
