Phillies 2013 #1 Draft Pick J.P. Crawford Promoted to Clearwater

CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Philadelphia Phillies today announced the promotion of J.P. Crawford to the Advanced-A Clearwater Threshers. The 19-year-old shortstop from California began the season with the Class-A Lakewood Blueclaws.

Crawford was selected in the first round of the June 2013 draft by the Phillies, 16th overall. At the start of the 2014 season, he was named the #3 prospect in the Phillies organization by Baseball America and #87 on MLB.com's Top 100 Prospects.

For the Blueclaws in 2014, Crawford played in 60 games, batting .295 with 19 RBIs and 3 home runs. At the time of his promotion, Crawford led Lakewood with 37 walks, 16 doubles, 14 steals and an .804 OPS. He was also selected as a South Atlantic League Mid-Season All-Star, drawing a walk and scoring a run in the June 17 game.

In 2013, Crawford batted .308 with an .805 OPS in 53 games between the Gulf Coast League and Lakewood. His .345 average and .443 on-base percentage in the GCL led the league and earned him a Post-Season All-Star nod.

Crawford will make his Florida State league debut tonight, June 18, at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland. He is playing shortstop and batting second against the Flying Tigers. Crawford's first appearance at Bright House Field in Clearwater will be on Friday, June 20, against the Dunedin Blue Jays.
