New Hampshire Phantoms News Release
Hampstead, NH, 05/19/05 â New Hampshire Phantoms are back in action this weekend when they travel to face Western Mass Pioneers in their fifth game of the USL Second Division. The match is this Saturday May 21st at 7:30 pm at the Lusitano Stadium in Ludlow, Mass.
The Phantoms, still hit by injury problems, will play their third consecutive away game. Last week the team lost twice 1:3 at Pittsburgh Riverhounds and Cincinnati Kings (the goals coming from Ricky Charles and Bjorn Hansen from the penalty spot). Still sidelined because of injuries are Jonathan Curran, Marc Hubbard and Craig Stewart. The good news for Head Coach Suleyman Doenmez is the return of key players Mark Manganello and Anthony D'Angelo.
The Western Mass Pioneers are currently fifth in the table. They are the team with most ties in the division â three of their five games ending with no winner. Their last game was a tie as well â 2:2 at home against the Wilmington Hammerheads. Despite the attacking tactical scheme the Pioneers are using, with three midfielders and three forwards, they have scored only 6 goals in five games so far. Top scorer for their team is midfielder Rigels Quosa, scoring two of their 6 goals.
Phantoms GM Jim DeDeus said: "We hope to get a good result from the trip to Western Mass pioneers. Away games are hard but we have to start winning points from them as well!"
The NH Lady Phantoms, who lost their opener of the season 0:3 to Western Mass Pioneers, play on Saturday night at New Jersey Wildcats. The Wildcats have an impressive seven national team players, who all will join next week's United States Women's National Team Program training camp. Top scorer for the team is forward Christine Latham with 2 goals (from 6 scored), the Wildcats have won both of their games so far and occupy the top of the table with 6 points.
