City Islanders to battle Royals
May 19, 2005 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Penn FC News Release
(Harrisburg, Pa., May 19, 2005) â The Harrisburg City Islanders (1-3-1) look to break their three-game losing streak this Saturday, May 21, when the Northern Virginia Royals (0-5-0) make their lone visit of the season to Skyline Sports Complex. Kickoff is 7:05 p.m.
Northern Virginia, 3-16-0 a year ago, has been outscored 24-2 thus far in 2005. Harrisburg defeated the Royals twice in 2004, winning 5-2 in Northern Virginia on April 17 (the City Islanders' first-ever game) and 5-0 (the most lopsided victory in team history) on June 23 in Harrisburg.
The match is Harrisburg's final U.S. Open Cup qualifier. To be guaranteed a Cup berth, the City Islanders need a win and some outside help, though it is possible (but unlikely) for Harrisburg to lose on Saturday and still qualify.
Following Saturday, the City Islanders have off until Saturday, June 4, when the expansion Cincinnati Kings visit Skyline for the first time (7:05 p.m. kickoff).
The Harrisburg City Islanders are in their second season of play in the nine-team USL Second Division. The City Islanders' 20-game (10 home, 10 away) regular season schedule kicked off on April 16 and will run through August 13, with home games played at scenic Skyline Sports Complex on City Island in Harrisburg, Pa. The club's inaugural season included a 10-7-3 record, a playoff berth, and three standing room only crowds. For more information or to order tickets, visit www.cityislanders.com or call 717-441-GOAL.
