New Hampshire Phantoms News Release

MANCHESTER, NH - (August 11, 2007) - The New Hampshire Phantoms concluded it season at Chabot-McDonough Stadium at Manchester Memorial High School tonight dropping a 3-1 decision at the hands of the visiting Cincinnati Kings.

Playing in front of 1,023 fans and one of its largest crowds of the year, the Phantoms conceded an early goal to the Kings just six minutes into the game when Nathan Micklos hammered home a rebound on a Samuel Miller shot. From there, Cincinnati never looked back in scoring goals at 45 and 58 minutes in taking a commanding 3-0 lead.

Cincinnati, owners of a 3-11-5 United Soccer Leagues Second Division record, was looking for a little retribution following last night's 6-1 drubbing at the hands of Western Mass Pioneers in Ludlow and got just that. NH lost its second consecutive game and finished a six-game home stretch with a 2-3-1 record. The Phantoms, 3-11-5, had entered the game one point behind Cincinnati in the USL-2 standings.

NH finally got on the scoreboard in the 89th minute when Oumar Thiam (Guinea) finished a Chris Loftus serve amid chaos in the penalty box. The Phantoms were playing without star midfielder and playmaker Romelle Burgess (Barbados National Team) who had to return to his native country due to visa constraints.

The Phantoms future does look bright, however. As many as 12 first-year players hope to be suiting up next year for NH, and the experience gained this season was invaluable. When the Phantoms return to the pitch next spring, it will be the 13 th season for the longest active professional franchise in the Granite State.
