New Hampshire Phantoms News Release

KEENE, NH - (August 1, 2007) - Two New Hampshire Phantoms men's professional team players were recognized by the United Soccer Leagues Second Division for their individual performances in the team's 3-2 win over Wilmington Hammerheads last Saturday night.

Midfielders Romelle Burgess and Valdemir Teixeira were named to the USL-2 Team of the Week for Week #15. Burgess, a member of the Barbados National Team, had his best match of the season and gave his team its first lead of the game when he scored a highlight reel goal at 65:00. Burgess received a ball from teammate Patrick White, darted left with the ball, slammed on the brakes, and after touching the ball right managed a second touch line drive ground ball bullet to the keeper's right. Burgess has played in 17 of 18 games for NH this season with 18 shots, and has been one of his team's brightest, most consistent stars. He played for Southern NH University from 2002-2006.

Teixeira, in his third season with the Phantoms, netted his team's game-winning goal when he went opposite foot and buried a right-footer inside the near post at 83:00 to give NH its largest lead of the season. That lead lasted seven minutes when Wilmington made it interesting with a goal in added time. Teixeira, a 6'2", 195 pound player, has played every position except goalkeeper for the Phantoms this season. The 1998 graduate of Newbury College is a native of Portugal and played his club soccer for Benfica.

It was the first such honor for both players this season. The Phantoms continue to roll during their final six-game home stretch of the season managing two wins and a tie in the past four games with the only loss suffered to Crystal Palace Baltimore in added time. It was the third loss in extra time this season. It has been a rebuilding season for the Phantoms with 12 first year players.

In an exhibition match at Keene State College's Owl Stadium, Vermont's Voltage of the Premier Development League received the game-winning goal from former NH Phantoms player (1995-96) and Franklin Pierce College graduate Bojan Vuckovic in the 90th minute to complete a come-from-behind rally in edging the Phantoms, 2-1.

Some 460 high school campers and 25 high schools from five New England states attended the match. This is the 30th annual KSC soccer camp making it the longest active soccer camp in New Hampshire.

Voltage forward Stephen Kauble started the scoring just 30 seconds into the second period when he ripped a shot from the right side to the far post past Phantoms goalkeeper Michael Murphy. The Phantoms equalized at 64:00 when Paisley, Scotland native Tom McNeil headed home a far post serve from midfielder Oumar Thiam (Guinea).

The score stayed knotted at one apiece until Vuckovic made a 30-yard run down the right side before depositing the game-winner.

The Phantoms host Bermuda Hogges Saturday night at Manchester Memorial High School's Bob Chabot-Hubie McDonough Stadium before closing out its season at home against Cincinnati the following Saturday.
