New Hampshire Phantoms News Release

Hampstead, NH, June 16 - New Hampshire striker Almir Barbosa was picked for USL Second Division Player of the Week. He scored two goals for the 2:1 victory at Charlotte Eagles last Saturday. For the first time this season Barbosa was in the starting eleven and he repaid the belief of head coach Suleyman Doenmez in the best possible way.

The Phantoms entertain on Saturday the Long Island Rough Riders. The game is at Dr George J. Larkin Field on the Campus of SNHU at 7.30 pm. The two teams already met once this season. In the first game of the competition the Phantoms lost their away trip to the Rough Riders 1:2, with goals from Espinosa and Etienne for the home side and from Bjorn Hansen for the Phantoms.

Phantoms GM Jim DeDeus said: "The win at Charlotte was very important in a sense that the boys now believe that they can defeat anyone. We started the season with many injury problems and did not play with our best against the Riders back in April. Now we have a full squad and hope to add new three points on Saturday."

Derrick Etienne will be the main danger for the Phantoms defense on Saturday. The #9 striker has scored three goals and one assist so far. Three other players - Espinosa, Cabrera and Sy have netted twice for the Rough Riders this season. If the Phantoms manage to win they will go above the Rough Riders in the table.
